Zanuso was one of the Italian designers from Milan, who formed the international idea of “good design” in the Post-War years. A graduate in architecture at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan, he opened his own design office in 1945. From the beginning of his career, in Domus, where he served as editor 1947-49 and 1952-56 and Casabella, where he was editor, Marco Zanuso helped establish theories and ideals for the modern movement project.

As a professor of architecture, design and Urban Planning at the Polytechnic Institute, from the 1940s to the 1980s, and as a founding member of ADI, in the 1950s, also had a distinct influence on the next generation of projects that came out of Italy . The main part of his career stands out in the research and experience with curved metal luxurious furnishings, up to the industrial projects of polished plastic.

Every phase of its work, opening market for different materials. One of the highlights was the participation in the Low-Cost Furniture contest sponsored by the MoMA in 1948. At Pirelli, in 1948, he opened a new division, the Arflex, in charge of specific advanced projects. Zanuso was a member of the committee to produce their first models.

In addition, Zanuso sought to develop a new material, one that “could revolutionize not only the welding system, but also the structure of manufacturing and formal potential. Our prototypes acquire visually exciting and new, contours with industry standards than before they were unimaginable. ”

Thenceforward, as a designer, he addressed the problem of the relationship between the architect and the manufacturer, from design and experience, between the function of the product and the forms or fresh materials. Several of his works are exhibited at the New York Museum of Modern Art. Since 1979 he is a professor of industrial design at the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic Institute of Milan. Since 1981 is also chairman of the Department of Planning and Production. He has been working for Zanotta since 1969.
