Harry Bertoia (1915-1978) was born in Udine, Italy, and emigrated with his family to the US in 1930. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit in 1936. From 1937 to 1939 he was a fellow at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, where he taught from 1939-43, where he was acquainted with Eero Saarien and Charles Eames, who would become his coworkers in the following years.
In 1950 he designed the line of chairs in metallic thread for Knoll International, which had such great commercial success that allowed him to devote himself to his sculptor career. We present the model to the Home Design 3D Diamond chair and seat 420 model, developed with 3D CAD. Note that these models are quite complex and hence for this application many simplifications have been made in order to have a model compatible with a file size.
